Girl Caught On Canvas

Girl painted by Mary Cassatt (1844-1926).

I stumbled upon the music of Claude Debussy, Classical Music for Reading, Studying and Relaxation, and this is just one image from the slideshow of artworks to support the music.

The girl caught my eye.

Who is she? I wondered.

And I looked her up* and found her maker:

“An American painter and printmaker, Mary Cassatt (May 22, 1844 – June 14, 1926) was an impressionist artist who depicted the lives of women, especially of the special bond between mother and child. Deciding early in her career that marriage was not a feasible option, Cassatt never married, and spent much of her time with her sister Lydia. (…)”

And under the image it says: Lydia Cassatt Leaning on Her Arms, Seated in a Loge, 1880.

It’s a portrait of her sister.

The Cassett biography

*) Sometimes I use the internet by way of oracle. A word comes to mind and I look it up. I try to read meaning in it. Why now, this girl?  I searched on image.
